Our Sedona Dresser

BEFORE

 AFTER

OUR ONE MONTH PROJECT
This is an old dresser we picked up for $40 when we got married two and a half years ago. It was really beat up, but it was made of wood and still quite functional.
The back of the dresser is stamped 1961, so shortly after its 51st year, we decided to give it a new look.

The drawer pulls appeared to have oxidized so with a lot of elbow grease (Simon did most of this), and some auto polish and steel wool, we got them a little nicer, although we left them a little 'aged' to retain their character.

We thought about buying new drawer pulls, but the dresser had 2 inch and 2.5 inch pulls...and the common size is 3 inches. We couldn't find any we liked that matched both 2 and 2.5...and they were pricey little hardware.

Although we hadn't finished sanding, Simon was eager to stain them their new shade: Sedona Red. We'd picked up stain from Ace Hardware--the coolest store ever; the store in Deer Park has a store cat, a friendly feline who wanders the store and who hides if he gets too much attention. His name is Goliath, which fits him perfectly! He is a sweet old cat.

This picture made it look a little redder than it actually was but provided a good shade contrast of what was then to what is now.

We had a warm day and stained the rest of the dresser.

We used a polyurethane clear coat varnish on top to protect the dresser for the next 50 years.

We love our new dresser!
